Human Resources RM Education plans to add 150 staff Sankar Radhakrishnan
Thiruvananthapuram , May 28 RM EDUCATION Solutions India Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of the UK-based education services provider RM Plc, plans to add over 150 employees to its development centre at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram. The company, which currently has 80 employees in India, expects to have around 250 employees based at the Thiruvananthapuram facility by the middle of next year, said Mr Connell Viegas, Chief Executive Officer, RM Education Solutions India Pvt Ltd. Also on the cards is an expansion of the company's 8,000 sq ft development centre. Many of the new employees are likely to be recruited through campus placement programmes, said Mr Viegas. The company is looking at starting a `resource development programme' to improve the skills of potential employees. As part of this initiative, the company will recruit engineering students from selected colleges during the final semester of their academic programme. These students will then spend time at the company's software development centre and will be put through various training programmes that enhance their skills and enable them to add more value after they formally join the company, he added. According to Mr Viegas, the company's Indian facility provides a range of services to its parent in the UK. For instance, the company offers remote network management services to schools in the UK. It also has a dedicated team in Thiruvananthapuram that provides Web-based technical support to schoolteachers in the UK who use its products. And by the end of next year, it will expand this offering to include voice-based technical support, he added. Similarly, the company is in the process of developing an online testing module for the UK's Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. This product, which will facilitate online testing of children's computer awareness, has been developed in-house at the Thiruvananthapuram facility.
