People New head for PNB's Karnataka operations Our Bureau
Bangalore , May 28 MR P.K. SHARMA, Assistant General Manager, Punjab National Bank, has assumed charge as the Regional Head of the bank's Karnataka operations. He will head a network of 41 branches comprising more than two lakh customers. Mr Sharma assumes charge after the bank was restructured under which Karnataka was made into a regional establishment while Kerala became a zonal office. Karnataka recorded a rapid progress with a growth of 22 per cent in the last three years. It logged an overall business of Rs 1,075 crore, advances accounting for more than 40 per cent. Karnataka region ranks second after Chennai in the southern States with the bank's growth averaging 22.7 per cent in the last three years. Mr Sharma said that PNB's overall profit was Rs 1,108.69 crore at the end of March 2004. The total business stood at Rs 1,35,141 crore during the period. Retail lending constituted 19 per cent of the bank's credit.
