THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has asked officials concerned to implement public enterprise reforms, wherever necessary, with a human face.

He also asked them to take necessary measures to expedite the privatisation process and get legal blocks cleared to bring the reform process to its logical conclusion.

Reviewing the functioning of cooperative sugar mills at a meeting here on Friday, the Chief Minister directed the officials to extend voluntary retirement schemes (VRS) to employees in all the mills, pending completion of the reform process.

With regard to the Chittoor, Sri Venkateswara, Kovvur and Nizamabad sugar mills, the meeting decided to go ahead with the privatisation process, as they turned sick and went beyond revival. The meeting also felt that the reform process should be completed at Vijayarama Gajapathi and Anakapalli Co-operative sugar mills at the earliest.

Mr Reddy asked the officials to take up the issue of Cuddapah Co-operative Sugar Mill with IDBI, which had got the assets of the mills attached through the court and facilitate the privatisation process.

With regard to Etikoppaka and Chodavaram mills, the meeting felt that the mills were doing well and did not need any financial help from the Government. The Government expressed its willing ness to provide financial help, if need be, to the Thandava unit to protect the interests of farmers in the ensuing season.
