Telecommunications TRAI bags best regulator award in Asia Pacific Our Bureau
New Delhi , May 29 THE Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been named `Asia Pacific's Regulator of the Year 2004' for creating a regulatory environment that allowed rapid growth and investment in the sector. TRAI received the award at the Frost & Sullivan Technology awards in Singapore on Friday. While reducing uncertainty and discord, the initiatives of TRAI in the area of unified licensing, Internet and broadband were recognised by the awards panel, according to an official press release. It also recognised TRAI's forward-looking policies, which have brought about greater stability in the Indian telecom market. The Bharti Enterprises Chairman and Group Managing Director, Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, was adjudged the `Frost and Sullivan CEO of the year'. These awards are part of the Asia Pacific Technology Awards 2004 by Frost & Sullivan and recognise outstanding performance by companies in the Information & Communication Technology industry in the Asia Pacific region.
