InApp Technologies gets CMMI Level 3 rating

Thiruvananthapuram , May 30

INAPP Information Technologies, a small Technopark-based software company, has been assessed at Level 3 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) as defined by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of the Carnegie Mellon University.

CMMI supercedes the older CMM and the software and services CMM frameworks, which are now in the process of being `sunsetted'.

InApp's anointment would provide the required boost to the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) sector that was expected to drive the growth of Kerala's information technology industry, said Mr Amarnath Raja, Chief Executive Officer.

Quality frameworks such as CMMI represented the distilled best practices of successful software companies and would help address the difficulties inherent in software design and development. Thanks to its emphasis on well-defined processes, the CMMI framework would help ensure lower total cost of ownership (TCO), lower maintenance and rework costs and enhanced cost effectiveness for the customer.

The assessment of InApp based on SEI's standard CMMI appraisal method for process improvement (SCAMPI) methodology was led by SEI-authorised Lead Assessor, Mr Krishnan Puthucode, Director and CEO of the Bangalore-based Software Quality Center.

Good response: Speaking on the occasion of the successful audit, Mr Puthucode said that InApp had become the second company based in Kerala to achieve CMMI rating, and in its category of growing SMEs, the first in the State to adopt the new and improved CMMI model. By achieving this rating, InApp stood to benefit from implementing practices to improve project execution and quality. Worldwide, fewer than 45 organisations had achieved the CMMI rating.

Mr Puthucode told Business Line that Software Quality Center continued to be bullish with regard to generating business from the State.

The SME sector, both software and systems companies, had responded admirably to the concept propounded by the newer variant of the CMM models. SQC was keen on setting up an outpost in Kerala by the end of this year, which would in all probability be based in Technopark here.

InApp's technological skills encompass a variety of platforms ranging from personal computing to enterprise computing, and on a wide range of operating systems.
