Seminar on organic farms in Vayalar

KOCHI: A one-day seminar on organic farming and profitable intercropping in coconut garden was organised at Vayalar in Alapuzha district recently by Vayalar Coconut Development Community in collaboration with Peekay Tree Crops Development Foundation, Kochi and Krishi Bhavan, Vayalar.

Inaugurating the seminar, Mr M. Thomas Mathew, Chief Coconut Development Officer, Coconut Development Board, advised the farmers to cultivate spice crops like vanilla, pepper, nutmeg and clove as intercrops in the coconut gardens as it would generate extra income from the garden.

Those participated in the seminar included Mr P.K. Thampan, President, Peekay Tree Crops Development Foundation, Dr R. Vikraman Nair, Dean, Kerala Agriculture University, and Dr R.V. Pillai, retired Principal Scientist, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute.
