Coimbatore , May 30

DESPITE taking to core banking solution (CBS), Karnataka Bank Ltd is not looking at downsizing its staff strength, its Chairman, Mr Ananthakrishna, has said.

Allaying fears that technology would eventually lead to reduction in manpower, the Chairman, who was in the city said: `We have 4,300 staff. The business per employee at Rs 3.20 crore is much more than the industry average and we have people to take care of technology."

He conceded that the customers' expectations had increased and the bank was adopting technology to cope with the change and provide better customer service.

The bank proposed to launch debit card within the next two months, he said and added that Internet and mobile banking facility would be introduced soon thereafter.

The bank plans to expand its ATM reach to 100 from 12 at present, before the end of the next calendar year. "Though we have just 12 ATMs, we have tied-up with Corporation Bank for sharing its ATM network. No service charges are levied for use of Corporation Bank ATM," Mr Ananthakrishna added.
