Natural Calamities Reddy assures help to AP farmers Our Bureau
Hyderabad , May 30 THE Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Sunday while assuring of Government help to the farm sector, appealed to the political parties, intelligentsia, Government employees and particularly those in the local bodies, to guide farmers in these trying times. With the number of deaths of farmers continuing to grow by the day, Dr Reddy, in a statement urged people from various sections of the society to instil confidence among farmers. Expressing anguish over the rising number of suicides across the State in the farming community, Dr Reddy said this was due the mounting pressures of having to pay heavy debt. Dr Reddy said the news about early monsoon should cheer them up to look to new season with hope and a sense of confidence. As such a step would not only help them but also cheer up their family members. Drawing the attention of the farmers, Dr Reddy recalled the support they showed to him during his padayatra prior to the Assembly elections. Thanking them for the affection showered on him, which helped the Congress party ride back to power, he asserted that the Government has initiated steps to prevent harassment in realisation of farm dues. Steps have been initiated to ensure that there was no coercion by lenders. While assuring the farm community, he called upon people of various sections of society to urge the farm community to be bold in these times. Assuring of all necessary steps to ensure they come out of the present crisis, Dr Reddy recalled the clearance of the file providing for free power to the agriculture sector and waiver of dues.
