Plea to reopen Plachimada coke plant

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Employees Union has appealed to the government to take steps for the reopening of the Coca-Cola plant at Plachimada in Palakkad.

The President of the union, Mr Thennilapuram Radhakrishnan, said the government had issued orders for the closure of the plant on March 9 on the basis of "baseless charges" raised against the functioning of the plant.

He also said the water level in the Malampuzha and Moolathara dams had gone up as a result of the recent rains and there was no reason for the closure of the plant. As many as 600 workers and the families were affected by the stand taken by the government, he said.
