PSU fertiliser cos told to set up grievance cells

Our Bureau

New Delhi , May 31

THE Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilisers and Steel, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan, has directed the public sector fertiliser companies to set up grievances cell.

These cells should attend to the grievances of the farmers about their problems in regard to fertilisers. The companies have also been asked to make sure that all such problems should be attended within 24 hours.

Mr Paswan said this in a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry, which was also attended by the heads of public sector undertakings under the Department of Fertilisers.

The Minister emphasised that fertilisers should be available to the farmers as and when they require it and mooted the idea of supplying them directly to the farmers by the manufacturing companies in order to eliminate middlemen.

The Minister also made it clear that the profit making fertiliser companies such as National Fertilizer Ltd and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd would not be disinvested.

Regarding loss-making companies such as Madras Fertilizers Ltd and Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd, Mr Paswan said that their positions would be considered immediately.

He also suggested that a forum of producers, consumers and dealers should be set up to sort out the problems of marketing of fertilisers and seek their suggestions to improve marketing and distribution.
