Airlines European airlines announce cut in agency commission Our Bureau
Chennai , May 31 THE travel trade has been taken by surprise with four European airlines British Airways, KLM, Air France and Lufthansa announcing a cut in standard agency commission from 7 per cent to 5 per cent. Between Friday and Monday, these four airlines have sent formal notices to the travel trade informing them of their decision to reduce the agency commission effective September 1. Trade associations such as Travel Agents' Association of India have called for emergency meetings of local chapters for feedback and on the course of action, sources said. Leading travel agents said that the announcement has come right in the middle of the financial year and this was definitely a setback for most of the agents for whom the agency commission was the major source of income. Agents said they would also wait and watch to see which other airlines followed suit.
