Environment Day celebrations

Our Bureau

KOCHI: To create an awareness and to motivate the youth, the Confederation of Indian Industry, Kerala, and Young Indians are organising a water colour painting and public speaking competition for children in the age group of 8 to 12 years and 13 to 18 years on the occasion of the World Environment Day on June 5.

The event will be held at the Chavara Cultural Centre near here. The competition will be followed by a valedictory session in which eminent environmentalists including Mr V.J. Jose, Campaigner, Green Peace and Periyar River Keeper, will speak. A lilliputan clean up campaign is also initiated at the Ernakulam South Railway Station.

The World Environment Day, commemorated each year on June 5, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness on environment and encourage action to protect the environment, a release said.
