CITA suggests Rs 2,000-cr food infrastructure fund

THE Centre for International Trade in Agriculture and Agro-based Industries (CITA) on Friday asked the Food Processing Ministry to set up a Rs 2,000-crore fund to promote and ensure total food safety in India.

Making a presentation to the Minister, Mr Subodh Kant Sahay, the CITA stressed the need for reforming food safety policies to promote investments in the sector and increase food safety, according to an official statement.

Senior Ministry officials including the Joint Secretary Mr D.P. Singh and the Joint Industrial Advisor, Mr Arun Kumar were present. According to Health Ministry, 24-36 pc of food in India is either adulterated or sub-standard.
