Aquaculture Seeds of prosperity Parth Sanyal
A fisherman casts the net for fish seeds in the Hooghly river in Kolkata. West Bengal has been able to make rapid strides in the production of fish seeds for inland fishery. As much as 75 per cent of the demand for fish seeds is met by West Bengal alone. To induce greater utilisation of modern technology in pisciculture, training is being imparted at the State, district and grass-root levels to fishermen in inland fisheries. West Bengal is the only State where fish is cultivated in every kind of water bodies - brackish, sweet, sewage and marine waters.
