Govt must phase out production of pvt goods: Assocham

Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 6

THE Government should retire from production of all private goods gradually, except those of strategic importance, said Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham).

Apart from maintaining law and order, the Government should act as an arbitrator, regulator and as a promoter through policy actions and mitigate inequalities, Assochamsaid in a statement. All industries should be de-licensed, except defense and other strategic sectors. In addition, it has called for early reforms in agriculture, financial and legal sectors. There should be decentralisation of public expenditure and greater local control, it added.
