Qwiky's plans to move overseas

Nina Varghese

Chennai , June 7

FIVE years after it ushered in the concept of a third place, other than home and office, Qwiky's is planning an overseas brand expansion through a franchisee model.

Mr Sashi Chimala, Founder and CEO, Chimayo Chains Pvt Ltd (the master licensee of Qwiky Corporation, USA), said the brand would move into the West Asian market.

Mr Chimala said that the franchisee model was only for the overseas market while the outlets in India would be company owned. The company had decided not to get into franchising in India.

The expansion in India would largely be in lifestyle retail stores in the shop-in-shop format. Currently, there are 22 Qwiky's outlets in India and the company also manages and operates 76 Java Green coffee outlets in Reliance Web World chain. The company, which has invested Rs 6 crore in the last five years, has plans to invest Rs 5 crore more in the next two years
