National symposium on agro-ecosystem at Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Coastal Agro-ecosystem Directorate, part of the National Agriculture Technology Project (NATP) funded by the World Bank and operating at the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), Thiruvananthapuram, is organising a national symposium-cum-exhibition.

Titled, "Enhancing productivity and sustainability in coastal agro-ecosystem", the symposium would be held for three days at the CTCRI from Wednesday, an official spokesman said here.

Dr S.S. Magar, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, Maharashtra, will be inaugurating the programme at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Dr S. L. Mehta, National Director, NATP, New Delhi, will preside.

Achievements by the 38 production system research projects and 13 institution-village projects operating out of 169 centres in 13 States at an investment of Rs 38 crore would be presented and discussed. About 150 delegates, comprising scientists, technocrats and policymakers from West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat will take part.
