ENERGY-WATER nexus in India and South Asia will be the focus of a one-day Policy Dialogue being organised by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), South Asia Regional Office, here on June 11.
The IWMI, located in the ICRISAT campus (International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics), is undertaking research on policy, economic and technical issues related to the energy-water nexus in India and other Asian countries.
Energy and water sectors in India are in a crisis due to inappropriate policies including perverse incentives in the form of subsidies. This was resulting in resource degradation and threatening livelihood options in rural areas.
IWMI is one of the 15 international research institutes under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
The inter-linkages between energy and water pose significant challenges, which the Policy Dialogue session would address, according to an IWMI press release.
