New Projects Kerala: Taj group's move for Technopark hotel draws flak Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , June 9 THE proposal by Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) to establish a business class hotel at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram appears to have hit a roadblock with Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, asking the State Government to cancel the decision to allot land for the hotel within the Technopark campus. The decision to assign land at the Technopark to IHCL, which operates the Taj group of hotels, has been taken in violation of the norms governing land allotment in the park area, he said in a statement. Meanwhile, a press release from the office of the State Industries Minister said that the State Government is willing to look into any complaints about the allotment of land to IHCL at the Technopark. A final decision on the transfer of land to the hotel company will be taken only after considering complaints, if any, the release added. A statement issued by Mr N.R. Mahalingam, CEO, Technopark, claimed that no concessions were being given to IHCL at the Technopark. Similarly, there is no rule that land at Technopark is to be given only for IT units, the statement added. Land at the Technopark is allotted to companies applying for more than half an acre provided they have a minimum annual turnover of Rs 50 crore and IHCL meets these conditions, he added. Besides, the hotel is intended to provide ancillary services to the units in the park. On May 27, Roots Corporation (a subsidiary of IHCL) and Technopark entered into an agreement to establish a 100-room business hotel on the Technopark premises.
