Telecommunications Fixed line billing way below norms: TRAI Our Bureau
New Delhi , June 9 FIXED line telephone operators are losing credibility on metering and billing criteria with the latest Quality of Service survey by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) finding a deterioration in service over last year. While the operators have shown improvement in parameters like provision of new connection, fault incidences and repairs, metering and billing is an area of concern where the performance has deteriorated during the January-March 2004 quarter , a TRAI release said here on Wednesday. The regulator has set parameters for quality of service and telecom companies are required to submit data on quarterly basis. Several operators in many circles failed to meet the benchmarks during the quarter, the regulator said. On provision of new connections, the performance of almost all operators were found to be below the benchmark of providing connectivity within seven days after registration of demand. In the billing credibility area, the benchmark is less than 0.1 per cent of bills disputed in a billing cycle and BSNL has met this benchmark in all the circles except MP, Andaman North East and Orissa.
