Reliance Energy's annual general meeting was marred by consumer protests.

Consumers and political activists from the Janata Dal, including employee shareholders from the Bombay Electric Workers' Union, shouted slogans against the company for selling power at high rates. Protestors complained that monthly power bills had gone up substantially since the Reliance group took over control of the erstwhile BSES Ltd.

In response to a shareholder's question on increase in tariff, Mr Anil Ambani said the hike came after REL's supplier Tata Power Company raised its fuel adjustment charge. As a rule, fuel charges are passed on to power consumers.
