Rubber unchanged as buyers keep away

THE rubber prices remained unchanged on Thursday. Major manufacturers continued to abstain from the market and the trading activities were in a low key.

Monsoon rains continued to disrupt the tapping process all over the plantations putting pressure on the arrivals.

The tyre sector has already taken a decision to import 25,000 tonnes of NR by July 2004 of which 10,000 tonnes has already arrived. This contains predominately Block rubber-20.

The futures market turned better quoting the June delivery at Rs 62 (Rs 61.20) on Thursday. The July delivery was quoted at Rs 60.64 (Rs 60.14), August delivery at Rs 58.60 (Rs 58.19) and September delivery at Rs 57.45 (Rs 57.20) per kg for RSS 4.

The physical market rates per kg on Thursday were as follows: RSS 4 Rs 61.25 (Rs 61.25), RSS 5 Rs 59.50 (Rs 59.50); ungraded Rs 59.00 (Rs 59.00) ISNR 20 Rs 57.00 (Rs 57.00), latex 60% Rs 46.00 (Rs 46.00).
