Employment Shinde `open' to job reservation in Maharashtra private sector Our Bureau
Mumbai , June 14 THE Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, has assured members of a CII delegation that it was open on the issue of reservation of jobs. The delegation, according to a CII press release, met Mr Shinde regarding the January 29 notification of Maharashtra Act No. VIII of 2004, which introduces 52 per cent job reservation for the backward classes in the private sector. Expressing satisfaction over the discussions held with Mr Shinde, the CII President, Mr Anand Mahindra, said the Government was open on this issue and would see that the Act, basically framed to reserve jobs in the public sector, would not create difficulties to investors and industry. He added that since the rules for implementation of the notification had not been drafted yet, this was a good time for the Government to consult the industry on the notification's nuances. Stating that CII had noted the proposal for a National Dialogue on the issue of reservations, as expressed in the Common Minimum Programme of the Government at the Centre, the CII President said this new measure probably needed to be seen in the same context, and, therefore, a dialogue on the issue was very much in order. The press release added that the CII hoped that the State Government would be adopting policies that would attract fresh investments to generate more that would result in further employment opportunities. The Chief Minister added that there would be no slowing down in the reform process in the State. The Chief Minister also assured the delegation that there was no reason for concern on the issue of recommendations made by the Maharashtra State Law Commission, on the proposed changes in the running of public trusts.
