Fire at India Cements plant disrupts production

Chennai , June 14

A fire at India Cements's Chilamkur plant, near Cuddapah, has affected production at the facility.

According to information provided by the company to stock exchanges, a fire, which started from the cable trench at the Chilamkur Cement Plant, due toan electrical fault, had damaged a section of the central control room on Sunday.

The damage is estimated at about Rs 12 crore and is covered by insurance. The fire damaged thyrister panels and other control panels in the control room. While the cement mill and the packing section have been put back in service, the clinkering section, it is estimated, will take three to four weeks to re-commission.

It is taking steps to serve its cement market from other cement plants. The Chilamkur plant is one of the five plants that India Cements has in Andhra Pradesh, apart from that of its subsidiaries.
