TN chamber for expansion of Madurai airport

Madurai , June 15

A DELEGATION of Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by the President, Mr S. Rethinavelu, met Mr Praful Patel, Minister for State for Civil Aviation, last week at New Delhi and emphasised the need for early completion of Madurai Airport expansion and modernisation project.

They also wanted the airport to be converted into an international airport and direct flights be introduced to Singapore, Malaysia, Sharjah, Sri Lanka and Maladives.

They also met Mr H.R. Bhardwaj, Minister for Law and Justice, and emphasised the imperative need for the inauguration of the functioning of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court without any delay and delegation of writ power to the Madurai Bench.

While the Minister of State for Civil Aviation assured the chamber that the project work of Madurai Airport would be expedited and international flights would be considered after the completion of the expansion work, the Minister for Law and Justice informed the delegation that the required formalities would be completed and after the consent from the the President , the inauguration of the bench would be made soon.
