RELIANCE Infocomm Ltd has cut call charges for its pre-paid subscribers in Tamil Nadu by 17-60 per cent, depending on whether the call is within the Reliance network or to other networks.

The new tariffs are effective today and will be applicable for existing and new subscribers. Reliance Infocomm has 7.5 lakh subscribers in Tamil Nadu, of which, about one lakh are pre-paid, according to Mr V.G. Somasekhar, Reliance IndiaMobile Business Head for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Under the new tariff plan, local calls to any other Reliance phone (mobile or fixed wireless) will cost 99 paise a minute, down from Rs 2.49 a minute and national calls within the Reliance network will cost Rs 1.79 a minute against Rs 2.99 earlier.

For calls made to numbers belonging to other operators, the tariff will be: local calls to other mobiles (GSM and CDMA) and landline - Rs 1.79 a minute against Rs 2.49/Rs 2.99 earlier; national calls - Rs 2.49 against Rs 2.99/Rs 3.99 earlier.

Mr S.P. Shukla, President - Wireless Products & Services, said Reliance Infocomm had launched the customised tariff package first in Tamil Nadu.

It would have similar circle-specific packages depending on the response to this scheme.
