TRAI asks mobile cos to inform users about roaming charges

Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 16

TELECOM Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday asked all cellular operators to inform pre-paid subscribers the charges applicable while roaming.

The regulator asked the operators to inform users about the tariffs for SMS each time they roamed between telecom circles and that roaming charges should be charged only if the users choose to make or receive calls.

The move comes after the regulator received complaints from pre-paid subscribers that operators were charging users for roaming without any intimation. TRAI asked operators to implement the directives with immediate effect.
