Terrorism AP Govt declares ceasefire for three months Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 16 PAVING the way for talks with CPI (ML) (People's War), the Andhra Pradesh Government has announced a three-month ceasefire that will come into force with immediate effect. Responding to People's War's (PW) statement issued on Tuesday, the Home Minister, Mr K. Jana Reddy, said the Government agreed to set up a committee to monitor ceasefire, facilitate deliberations with PW's emissaries and, finally, to hold talks with its leaders. Mr Ramakrishna, PW's State Secretary, demand ceasefire in a statement on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr Jana Reddy, said the Government had stopped all the activities that were aimed at Naxalites. "We put a full stop to all our anti-Naxalite activities in the last few weeks by stopping all the activities targeted at them," he said. Though the process started soon after the Congress Government assuming power, Government's reluctance to use the word `ceasefire' threatened to stall the process as PW insisted on observation of `simultaneous ceasefire for a specific period'. With the Government agreeing to use the word, the process is expected to take off as indicated in the PW's statement. The Home Minister said normal policing would continue, as it was the responsibility of the Government to take care of law and order.
