New Delhi , June 18 TWO-wheeler manufacturer, TVS Motor Company, is targeting a 15 per cent growth in sales this fiscal, as against an overall 10 per cent industry growth projected for the period. The company, which launched the TVS Victor GLX 125 here on Friday, is planning to replace its two-stroke motorcycle `Max' with a four-stroke entry-level motorcycle within six months. "We are looking at bettering the industry growth estimate of 10 per cent and are eyeing a 15 per cent growth in sales this fiscal," the TVS Motor Co Vice-President (Marketing), Mr Harish Krishnamachar, said. The company had posted a marginal 0.02 per cent rise in sales at 6.82 lakh units during 2003-04. The company was planning to launch an entry-level motorcycle to replace its existing two-stroke range, he said. "The four-stroke motorcycle, which will replace the `Max' range of motorcycles should be out in less than six months," he added. Till two-three years back, the `Max' range of motorcycle constituted 90 per cent of the company's production, Mr Krishnamachar told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of a 125 cc variant of `Victor' motorcycle. Currently, nearly 90 per cent of the production is of four-stroke motorcycles. The company has recorded sales with the launch of 110 cc motorcycle `Victor', but for almost one year, `Max' has been pulling down the overall motorcycle sales of TVS. But with `Max' being phased out and a new product, TVS aims to post 15 per cent sales growth this year over the expected 10 per cent industry growth. The new `Victor GLX' 125, which is being targeted at the executive segment, will see brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar doing promotion in a new advertisement featuring Pakistani paceman Shoaib Akhtar and Australians Jason Gillespie and Brett Lee. The bike is priced at Rs 42,886 (ex-showroom Delhi) and would be competing with bikes such as LML's Freedom and Hero Honda's Passion. The 125-cc, 10-bhp, `GLX 125' sports the Variable Timing intelligent engines (VT-i), which TVS had introduced in its recently-launched `Centra' model. Mr Krishnamachar said TVS is looking at a monthly sales of 15,000 units of the Victor GLX after next 3-4 months. "The GLX will be an important part in our overall strategy to boost sales. It will be pushed in a big way in the urban markets," he said. The new bike will be available in dual colours of yellow-black, black-silver, green-silver and blue-silver and its disc brake version will be available for Rs 45,886 (ex-showroom Delhi).
