Kochi , June 20

A TWO-DAY national workshop on `Fishery Harbours: Current Status and Future Concerns' will be held in Kochi on June 24 and 25. State Minister of Fisheries, Mr K.V. Thomas, will inaugurate the workshop.

The workshop will discuss the vital role that fishing harbours and landing centres play in planned fisheries development, reflected in the significant share allocated to them in all planned outlays of the Central Government.

With the rapid changes in fishing technology, there are increasing demand for construction of new fishing harbours and landing centres from all coastal States.

India's competitive edge in international market is subject to compliance and observation of international trade requirements, a press release issued here has said.
