Qantas to resume flights to India

Our Bureau

Chennai , June 21

QANTAS Airways will be restarting their operations to India in September, according to Ms Sonia Grinceri, Regional Director Western Australian Trade Office in India. The airline withdrew services to India in March 2002 after the drop in air traffic following the 9/11 attacks.

Ms Grinceri said Perth, the capital of Western Australia, was the gateway to India and South-East Asia. The travel time between Mumbai and Perth was 10 hours. The earlier operations by Qantas Airways were from Sydney to Mumbai via Singapore.

Ms Grinceri was addressing the Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce on the emerging prospects in trade and investment between India and Western Australia. She said that the Indian business community must think of Western Australia as a place for business and investment.

Mr N.C. Sarabeswaren, President of the Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce, said that Tamil Nadu and Western Australia should work on `sister State' basis, starting with seminars where the various aspects of the States could be showcased.
