Socio-economic survey

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO), under the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, will conduct the 61st round of socio-economic survey from July 2004 to June 2005.
This was announced here by Mr B.K. Giri, Director, NSSO (SDRD), Kolkata, during the course of his inaugural speech at a two-day training camp for officials here. The next round of survey beginning next month would be the quinquennial survey on consumer expenditure and employment/unemployment.
The reference period in the survey for food, paan, tobacco, intoxicants and miscellaneous goods would be 30 days while that for footwear, clothing, medical expenditure and education would be both 30 days and 365 days.
The sample size in the State of Kerala would be 560, according to Mr James Mathew, Joint Director, NSSO (FOD), Kerala Region. Out of this, 200 would be urban blocks and 360 rural blocks. In rural areas, a panchayat ward would be taken as a rural block while an urban area with a population of 1,000 would be taken as an urban block.
Among those who spoke on the occasion were Mr P. Kochunarayana Pillai, Additional Director, Department of Economics and Statistics, Kerala; and Mr P. Nanukuttan, Senior Superintendent, NSSO (FOD).
