Channels and Franchises Variety - Books Higginbothams opens new outlet in Chennai Our Bureau
Chennai , June 21 HIGGINBOTHAMS, one of oldest bookstores in South India, has opened its first franchised outlet in Alwarpet, a residential-cum-business district in south Chennai. Nilgiris, a well-known department store has also opened in the same building. Mr S. Chandrasekar, Whole-Time Director, Higginbothams Pvt Ltd (a part of the Amalgamations Group) said that company plansfurther expansion via the franchisee route. The company selected Sabari Super Market as its franchisee partner for this venture. Future partners will also conform to the high standards that Higginbothams has set, he said Mr K.R.V. Ramani of Sabari Super Market said that both the stores have occupied a total of 5,000 sq ft. The Nilgiris outlet is also a Sabari Super Market franchisee - Sabari's first Nilgiris franchised outlet is in T. Nagar. Mr Chandrashekar said that Higginbothams has 20 company-owned branches all over the South. Higginbothams has its greatest reach in railway stations and airports across the country. The company has around 85 outlets on railway stations. He added that there would be a new Higginbothams in the Chennai domestic airport soon.
