Poor should have a voice in policy making: World Bank

Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 21

THE World Bank on Monday said that poor people in the country must have a voice in policy-making.

The Bank also said that it would promote innovative delivery of services in rural areas to give a fillip to poverty alleviation programmes.

"Poor people should have a voice in policy making. They should be empowered to monitor and then only, there would be true development,'' Mr Praful Patel, Vice-President for South Asia region, World Bank, said here.

Inaugurating the India Country-level Development Marketplace here, World Bank Country Director, Mr Michael Carter, said that the Bank would now focus on bridging the gap between local and large-scale development.

"We are in a dilemma. Though we fund large-scale projects, we have noticed that the real action lies at the grassroots level," he said.
