Taxes Dept Web site launch in Kerala

THE Taxes Department of the Kerala Government is set to unveil a comprehensive Web site encompassing all the relevant information on the various taxes, including the history of commercial taxes legislations in the State over the decades, on Wednesday.

The Web site, www.keralataxes.org, which will feature the tax rates of more than 3,000 items and also court verdicts on various issues over the last 50 years, is the first of its kind in the country, according to an official statement.

Apart from the history of commercial taxes legislations in the State, the Web site will throw light on the reforms that were introduced at different points of time in the past in line with the recommendations of various committees.

The Web site will also contain important circulars and master notifications, incorporating amendments, that were issued by the department since 1987, the definitions of various items as given by the high courts and Supreme Court since 1950 and details on the different check-posts in the State.

There will be a "commodity tax rate master (CIRM)" and an "entry tax rate master (ETRM)" on the site that will give details of the respective tax rates of more than 3,000 items over the last 10 years.
