THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Minister for Water resources, Mr T.M. Jacob, has said that the massive drinking water scheme for Ernakulam City, West Kochi and Vypeen being implemented with the assistance of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) would be commissioned latest by September 2005.
The Minister told a review meeting here that all impediments coming in the way of the time-bound implementation of the project would be removed forthwith.
He also added that funds would be raised from various developmental agencies for initiating a number of other drinking water schemes in the State.
The review meeting deliberated on various problems bogging down the Ernakulam-Kochi-Vypeen scheme, work on which had begun as early as in 1995. Resistance mounted by the public against acquisition of land and discords with contractors were among the main problematic issues identified. A number of new moves to resolve outstanding issues were charted out at the meeting.
A new package that aims completion of the project by the new deadline had also been formatted.
