Bangalore , June 22

THE Cochin Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) has indicated its willingness to participate in the funding for improvement of connectivity to the Mangalore SEZ, being developed as a private sector initiative.

Mr Paul Antony, Development Commissioner of CSEZ, told presspersons here on Tuesday, "We have had some discussion with the SEZ developers on the subject."

The Mangalore SEZ is being developed by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Jaiprakash Engineering and Steel Company Ltd. The exact modalities of the funding would, however, have to be cleared by the Government. CSEZ also has the administrative control of export-oriented units of Bangalore.

Referring to the performance of these EOUs, Mr Antony said last year the growth was 83 per cent. Gross exports from the Bangalore EOUs were worth Rs 7,610 crore in 2003-04. The growth was led by minerals sector, which recorded exports worth Rs 911 crore.

He said Rajesh Exports Ltd recorded the highest export turnover at Rs 2,293 crore followed by Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd at Rs 840 crore.
