MANGALORE: The new Mayor of Mangalore, Mr Purandaradas Kuloor, who assumed office on Tuesday, said that he would urge the State Government to abandon its decision to impose self-assessment system (SAS) of property tax in the city.

Addressing presspersons here, he said that the Government would be requested to re-introduce old system of tax collection.

Stressing the need for private partnership in the development of the city, he said that preference would be given for public-private partnership in the development of markets in the city.

He would work for setting up one more vented dam across the Nethravathi. This could help tackle water scarcity during summer, he added.
