THE Andhra Pradesh Government has revived the Justice BK Somasekhara Commission to probe into the Yeleru land scam, which rocked the State during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) rule.
The Government issued an order on Tuesday, reinstating the Commission. Reports said Justice (retd) Mr Somasekhara gave his consent through fax and expressed his willingness to take up the job.
Acting on a plea by Mr P. Janardhan Reddy, a senior Congress leader, and others, the State Government decided to revive the panel to look into the alleged irregularities in the land acquisition for the Yeleru Reservoir.
The revival proposal was strongly opposed by the TDP, which claimed that Justice Mr Somasekhara had sought favours from the then Government. The State's Finance Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, criticised the TDP for putting spokes into the revival of the commission, which was set up during its own regime.
