Thiruvananthapuram , June 23

SURGICALS major Terumo Penpol has launched two products — thawing baths CB 100 and WB 100 — for the safe and uniform thawing of fresh frozen plasma prior to transfusion.

Announcing this, a Terumo Penpol spokesperson said the Composafe cryo thawing bath was designed for safe thawing of fresh frozen plasma at four degree Centigrade for optimum yield of cryo precipitate. It was also designed to maintain temperature at any set value between four degree C and 37 degree C.

A high capacity pump is installed to facilitate the optimum and uniform thawing of plasma. Having a capacity of accommodating 12 plasma bags in one cycle, it was ideally suited for large blood banks since large centrifuges had a capacity of 12 bags.

The plasma-thawing bath WB 100 was designed for the uniform thawing of frozen plasma before transfusion. In a laboratory, it could be deployed as a water bath; it could also be put to use in component separation room for thawing of plasma.

Terumo Penpol was the leading producer of blood bags in Asia (outside Japan) with a capacity of almost 11 million bags per annum.
