Airlines Travel agents, airlines to meet again on July 29 Our Bureau
New Delhi , June 23 THE stand-off between travel agents and leading foreign airlines on airlines' decision to cut agency commission continues. The second meeting between the two groups here on Tuesday failed to produce any results with both sides unable to compromise. ``We have told the airlines categorically that we cannot accept the proposed reduction in commission. The entire travel agents' community wants the international airlines to reconsider their decision,'' the President of the Travel Agents Association of India, Mr Balbir Mayal, said. He added that another meeting is scheduled on July 29. Airline officials, who attended the talks, said, ``We are in negotiations with the travel agents and are talking to them to find a solution,'' and declined to comment any further. The two sides had earlier met on June 11 to break the deadlock. At least seven leading airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France and Austrian, had recently notified the travel agents about their decision to reduce the commissions from seven per cent to five per cent from September 1.
