Software Ubinetics lines up Rs 125-cr investment for India Our Bureau
Bangalore , June 24 UBINETICS, a provider of 3G wireless technology announced on Thursday its plans to invest close to Rs 125 crore in ramping up its India operations over the next three years. The company plans to add about 150 highly skilled software developers to its existing development team of 150, said the company CEO, Mr Bjorn Krylander. ``We are already doing more than 50 per cent of our protocol development in India and almost 40 per cent of our overall research and development efforts are based here in Bangalore. We are very satisfied with our initial investment in India and very optimistic about our expansion plans here,'' Mr Krylander told a press conference. UbiNetics, which has so far invested Rs 50 crore in its Bangalore centre, considers India as one of the fastest growing markets for wireless technology. Its current expansion plans were in the wake of an impending worldwide boom in the 3G and wideband-code division multiple access (WCDMA) technology, he added. In a bid to increase awareness about 3G and high speed downlink packet access, a technology used for high-speed data transmission, UbiNetics is planning to set up an academy in Bangalore, which would conduct monthly seminars by eminent personalities in the wireless industry, Mr Krylander said. Commenting on the outlook for the 3G market Mr Krylander said, ``Companies worldwide are fast realising the immense potential of 3G and WCDMA technology, which makes data transfer in mobiles around the world three to four times cheaper. "UbiNetics has already licensed its protocol software to many mobile phone manufacturers and semiconductor companies. In the next few years, we would expect a complete shift to 3G as the mainstay of the mobile handset market.''
