Hyderabad , June 24

COMPUTER Sciences Corporation (CSC), the third-largest global IT services corporation with revenues of $15 billion, has announced plans to invest $10 million in its Hyderabad centre and induct about 1,000-1,200 techies over the next 12 months, virtually adding 100 people a month.

The President and Managing Director, Dr Arun K. Maheshwari, said the company has taken a decision to expand its India operations at the existing Gurgaon and Indore centres and the newly chosen Hyderabad centre, its third city in the country.

While announcing CSC's plans and appointment of senior-level executives at a press conference here, Dr Maheshwari said the company recently began operations at Hyderabad and plans to induct about 100 techies every month by adding up to about 1,000 people by next June. In fact, in two sittings, we inducted about 400 people for the Hyderabad operations. This only vindicates our stand of choosing Hyderabad as the first destination for us in the South, which is mainly driven by the availability of a large talent pool.

"We have firmed up a 1,20,000-sq-ft facility at Mindspace, developed by the Rahejas, which would have the capacity to host about 1,500 people. While we are currently operating out of a temporary centre, we expect to take this up by July-end. This would complement the CSC infrastructure of three centres in Noida and one in Indore; Hyderabad is the company's fifth centre," Dr Maheshwari said.

CSC India has been witness to a year-on-year growth of 75 per cent, which is more than double the industry average as per Nasscom estimates. Its revenues are about $50 million now and expected to touch $85 million this year. The charter of the Core Team, comprising Mr P.S. Karthikeyan, Director, Global Transformation Solutions, and *Mr M.V. Sarma, would maintain the growth pattern and complement the expertise of CSC's expanding business and services portfolio.

CSC India is a fully owned subsidiary of the US corporation, which has over 90,000 employees operating across the world. The India centre came through an acquisition of PMSC (Policy Management Systems Corporation) India.

"We are in the process of finalising a major deal with a large European insurance company and expect to strike a multi-million-dollar deal for a seven-year IT infrastructure management service. This deal itself could bring in about 600 jobs for remote infrastructure management. However, this mandate will be evenly spread out in Hyderabad and Gurgaon," Dr Maheshwari explained.

"I called on the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday who has assured us of all necessary support," he said.
