Rlys to have fewer time-tables

Our Bureau

Kolkata , June 25

THE Indian Railways wishes to have fewer time-tables than at present. Right now there are as many as 17 time-tables available - one each for 16 zonal railways and one for the Konkan Railway Corporation.

The plan is to have only five. Several zonal railways will be clubbed together for the purposes of having one composite time-table.

According to the current thinking, there will be one time-table for Eastern Railway (with headquarter in Kolkata), East Central Railway (Hajipur) and North Frontier Railway. Similarly, there will be one for South Eastern Railway, East Coast Railway (Bhubaneswar) and South East Central Railway (Bilaspur).

Four zonal railways namely Western Central, North Western and West Central will be clubbed together for having one time-table and four others such as Southern, South Western , South Central and Konkan Railway too will have one time-table. Finally, there will be one time-table for Northern Railway, North Central and North Eastern.
