Ahmedabad , June 25 THE milk producers of Gujarat have received 15 per cent higher prices for their produce during the year even as the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has achieved an 18 per cent growth during 2003-04 to close the year with Rs 2,882 crore turnover. Speaking at the annual general meeting held at Anand on Thursday, Dr Verghese Kurien, Chairman, GCMMF, said the present achievements were a result of the farmers who decided to set up their own brand, Amul, some 50 years ago. "The milk producers had shown remarkable foresight in creating their own marketing organisation that has been able to beat competition of every type in the dairy business at the least possible cost. The real strength of Amul lies in its philosophy of offering best quality products at a reasonable price to consumers, and earn their faith and loyalty, thereby safeguarding the interest of both the farmers and consumers," Dr Kurien said.
