Coimbatore , June 26

THE Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) will contribute funds for putting up additional building in the newly launched Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textile Management (SVPITM) here.

Similarly, efforts are on to get Rs 3 crore as contribution to the institute's development from the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).

Already Reliance Industries and the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) have donated Rs 25 lakh each to the institute's corpus fund, according to Dr H.P. Bhattacharya, adviser to SVPITM.

At a formal function held at the institute premises, the Union Textiles Secretary, Mr S.B. Mohapatra, dedicated the new academic building built at a cost Rs 10 lakh, which was jointly donated by the Southern India Mills Association and the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA).

Speaking on the occasion, the TEA President, Mr A. Sakthivel, who is also the Chairman of AEPC, said that the council has asked the Centre's permission to release Rs 3 crore from the funds lying with the council. He added that the Mr Mohapatra said the national textile management institute would be developed as centre of excellence in textile management studies on the lines of the IIMs and the courses to be offered would focus on financing, marketing, IT. The need for such an institute was felt considering the fact that manpower for the industry at managerial level continued to be neglected and the globalised textile trade too demanded the change in attitude among the entrepreneurs about inducting professional managers.
