`Promotional package for SSI sector soon'

Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 26

THE Government has said it would soon come out with a `comprehensive promotional package' for the small scale and agro rural industries.

Under the package, the basic needs of the sector such as availability of credit, marketing, technology development and cluster development would be given priority, the Minister for Small Scale and Agro Rural Industries, Mr Mahavir Prasad, said here at a Conference of Small Scale Industry Ministers.

"Our effort will be to free this sector from Inspector Raj," he said.

Mr Prasad said keeping in view the potential of the sector, the Common Minimum Programme of the Government has emphasised the need for creation of self-employment opportunities by setting up small scale, rural and agro industries.

At the conference, major schemes of the sector were reviewed, which are being implemented at the State level, or those which require special initiatives on part of the Centre or State governments, an official release said here.
