THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has now made it mandatory for all members in industry and service to undertake continuing professional education (CPE) for at least 10 hours in a period of 12 months.

The central council of the ICAI has taken a decision to this effect during its three-day meeting that ended here on Saturday. Hitherto, CPE has been mandatory only for those members who are in practice. From January 1, 2005, members in industry and service would be required to login at least 10 hours of CPE in a period of 12 months. For members in practice, CPE would be mandatory for 20 hours in 12 months commencing from January 1, 2005.
