DJ Academy in pact with NID

Coimbatore , June 28

THE DJ Academy of Design (a unit of GKD Charity Trust) has entered into a tie-up with the Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID) for introduction of a Post Graduate programme in Design Fundamentals for engineering students.

The one-year certification programme would not merely impart understanding of the trade but would be an intellectual engagement in itself, Dr Darlie O. Koshy, Executive Director, NID said.

Briefing presspersons, Dr Koshy stressed the need for the Indian industry to incorporate design for offering better competitiveness.

"This realisation must percolate to the academic level, so that design could be incorporated in the curriculum," he said and pointed out that NID was working in tandem with AICTE to develop an approach to integrate design in engineering curriculum.

The Institute was also in the process of preparing a Blue Print for Design Education in the country. A study made by the Institute indicates that an estimated 8000 to 10000 designers would be required for nearly 200 segments of products, services and development sectors of the economy every year.
