Demand for rubber up as rains intensify

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , June 29

THE physical rubber prices began to move up on Tuesday as the monsoon intensified all over the State. The covering groups and purchase agents once again started chasing the thin arrivals offering better quotations.

Sellers retreated expecting the market to seek new highs and the gap between demand and supply positions widened pushing the sheet rubber price to close at Rs 67 a kg against Rs 66.50 on Monday. The rubber futures appeared slightly bearish after a weak TOCOM closing on Tuesday. The near month July delivery was quoted at Rs 67.40 (Rs 67.80), August delivery at Rs 63.40 (Rs 63.69), September delivery at Rs 59.95 (Rs 60) and October delivery at Rs 58.25 (Rs 58.35) a kg for RSS 4.

The spot market rates per kg on Tuesday were as follows: RSS 4 Rs 67 (Rs 66.50); RSS 5 Rs 63 (Rs 62.50); ungraded Rs 61 (Rs 60); ISNR 20 Rs 58.50 (Rs 58); and latex 60% Rs 48.75 (Rs 48.50).
